About us...

"The Consular Corps of Washington, D.C. Inc." is as a non-profit organization, embracing the objectives of the promotion of friendship and cooperation among all countries of the two hemispheres. It comprises over one hundred career consular and diplomatic personnel assigned to embassies and consulates in Washington D.C. as well as supporting members from a large cross-section of the U.S. Government and the local business community.

The Corps had its inception in 1968. Its first President and founder was Mr. Hernan Navarro, then Consul of Chile to the United States. Prior to its formation, the Consular Corps of Washington was an informal association of administrative and consular officials who met on a monthly basis. During the years 1968 -1974, the Corps adopted its Organizational Guidelines, Certificate of Membership, and official insignia, which are still in effect to date. The Consular Corps is governed by an Executive Board which is elected annually. Membership is open to all consular representatives accredited to the United States in the Washington D.C. area, as well as Government Officials, and commercial institutions, which do business with the consular community. There are currently four categories of Membership; Regular Member, Associate Member, Supporting Members and Honorary Members. The late President Nixon and Ambassador Shirley Temple-Black are among the distinguished list of honorary members who have served the Corps over the years.

Joining the organization is usually one of the first things new consular workers do when posted in Washington. And it is really worth it! We meet twice a month—usually at an evening social reception and a luncheon with a featured speaker. Add to this occasional field trips, sightseeing tours and even our very own Balls and you shall have the full picture! The Corps is a non-profit organization. Everything we do day after day is aimed at reaching our ultimate goal - to promote friendship and cooperation among representatives of different countries. So come and join the best club in town and do remember - We do not see nations, – we see people!
